Is there anything better than hand formed burger patties grilled and covered with melted cheese? There is not. I saved you having to respond there. And I like to add lots of things to mine including dried basil, dried parsley, dehydrated onion, salt, pepper and Worchestershire sauce. I feel like a hobbit because I think I spelled that right the first time. Dehydrated onion is probably the most underestimated ingredient to home cooks and busy moms. The onion is always pre-chopped, always ready to go, always begging to get thrown into anything a fresh sautéed chopped onion would want to belong in but it never goes bad and doesn’t start growing weird roots to the sky in your dark cupboard. My daughter declared this the best dinner ever! I think she might be growing because she says this a lot. About a lot of things. Get yourself a pound or more of 80/20 ground beef and get going. If you prefer the lean beef you might have to add an egg to keep them moist in place of the delicious fat. Also serving them on potato rolls is a must for me. So much more flavor than the regular hamburger buns. You can see my new best friend looking on in the photo. He makes everything better.
I would also like to mention that I do sew from time to time but not lately. Betsy Ross has got to eat. Even when there is no time or energy to fire up the Ole Singer. Momma’s got to eat.
Betsy’s Amazing Backyard Burgers
1 lb 80/20 ground beef
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp dried basil (or oregano or both)
1 tsp dehydrated onion
1 tbsp Worchestershire Sauce (I did it again, hobbits unite!)
Salt and pepper to taste
Cheddar cheese, sliced or shredded
Mix the meat and seasonings by hand. Form them into patties any size or shape you like. Grill them to perfection and top them however you like! The crazier and more creative you get with your toppings and rolls, the more it feels like you are eating al fresca at a great burger bistro downtown. Enjoy!
